| [size=12]When children are removed from their homes in order to protect them, they deserve to be
safer in state foster care than when in their own home. If we cannot assure their
safety in foster care, they need to be left in their own homes.
How many of our women readers know that there’s such a
thing as a 15-day Protection Order that they can avail of from their
respective barangays if they have been abused by their husbands —
sexually, verbally or physically, and if they would like to leave their
relationships? Only a few, we’re sure, know of this and the fact that
once that Temporary Protection Order is served, their respective
spouses would be asked to vacate their homes and that they couldn’t be
in the vicinity of the women involved, nor come back and live again in
their conjugal house. Moreover, that Temporary Protection Order can be
renewed or extended for more days.
If most of you are surprised
that there’s such a protection, don’t be embarrassed. Most women,
battered or not, are probably not aware of such protection available
for them. And this is exactly why QTV 11’s "Women’s Desk" (aired
Thursdays at 10 p.m.) has existed for two years already (hopefully for
a decade more) – to inform and teach women and those abused or victims,
what to do to save themselves and give themselves back their dignity
and integrity as human beings, too.
For the "Draw the Line Campaign," they have invited the following
prominent personalities in the country: former Pres. Corazon Aquino,
Liza Macuja–Elizalde, mother and daughter Pilita Corales and Jackie Lou
Blanco, Maki Pulido, Anamabel Garcia of the Women’s Crisis Center, and
the first lady general Yolanda Tanigue who heads the Women’s Desk of
the Philippine National Police.
