Mariannet Amper, the 12-year-old girl who reportedly committed suicide on Nov. 2 because of poverty, was likely raped, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday. An autopsy of the girl’s body revealed lacerations caused by penetration in her genitals and that the ligature found around her neck was “self-inflicted.” “May punit ang hymen (The hymen was torn),” was how Dr. Tomas Dimaandal, medico-legal officer of the police’s Scene of Crime Operators (Soco) in Southern Mindanao, described what he found during a press conference called by Duterte.

But Dimaandal said the lacerations had healed, indicating that these were old, “probably [inflicted] weeks” before her death. Amper’s body was reportedly found hanging by her 11-year-old brother inside a room of their house in Barangay Ma-a in Talomo District here. Amper’s sister, Maricar, 22, said the family was shocked at the autopsy results. “We never expected it. Even our father was also shocked,” she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone.

Amper’s father Isabelo said he expected the result of the autopsy. “Even before it was conducted, there was already talk that my daughter might have been raped. But I am ready to cooperate. I could not do that to my daughter,” he said. He said that although he was hurt by speculations that he had sexually abused his daughter, he wanted the investigation finished to determine who really did it. “We thought our pain was already over but here comes another problem again,” he said.

Ito ang ikinatatakot ko nuong una pa lang na lumabas ang balita. Hindi sa pinaghinilaan ko ang pamilya bagkos hindi ako naniwala sa ikinalat na teorya ng GMA 7 na ang dahilan ng pagpapakamatay ay dahil sa kahirapan.

HIndi ako naniwala na nasa isip ng 12 year old ang pagpapakamatay dahil mahirap ang kanyang buhay. Nuong bata pa ako ang laman ng isip ko kung masama ang loob ko ay parating paglalayas at hindi ang pagpapakamatay. Hindi rin sumagi sa isip ko ang kahirapan ng buhay kasi hindi naman ito ang priority ng buhay ko nuon. Ang gusto ko nuon ang makapaglaro kasama ng mga kaibigan at hindi problemahin at maging sanhi ng kalungkutan ang kahirapan.

Pinalaki ng GMA 7 ang issue upang ibenta ang isa nilang palabas - Wish ko lang - para sa akin being irresponsible ito on their part. Sana hindi sila gumawa ng conclusion sa nangyari kasi hindi sila experts sa suicide cases or they are competent to make the judgement that it is poverty that pushed the little girl to commit suicide.

This is a case of Media Irresponsibilty. Marami silang naloko na tao na nagbigay ng tulong. Sayang. Patay na yung tinulungan nila na lumalabas pa ngayon na biktima ng pang-aabuso.

ah napagusapan namin ito ng isang kuya minsang nagkita kami sa premier ng isang play kmaakilan lang... hay... takot ko rin ito... at ito na nga lumabas na ang maaring natakpang katotohanan...

whenever i had problems dahilan ng aming kahirapan di pumapasok sa isip ko ang suicide.
kahit nung bata pa ako o sabihin na nating kasing eded ko yung biktima.

Tingin ko nga rin na maaring totoo yan.
